We are pleased to announce that our paper,  “Variable Transmission With Actively Controllable Reduction Ratio” has been published in the IEEE Transactions on Mechatronics (TMECH).

This study presents a compact actively controlled variable transmission for robotic actuators, enabling adjustable reduction ratios (1:1 to 4.2:1) using a compression-spring–based toroidal drive without external energy input. The system achieves 75% transmission efficiency, low power consumption during shifting, and built-in overload protection, demonstrating its applicability to efficient robot actuation.
